There is a wealth of historical sites, natural parks and outdoor activities to suit everyone. There are tourist information offices in most of the towns and villages with plenty of helpful information.
Canoeing, wall climbing and caving
The region with its wealth of rivers and lakes offers great opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, wall climbing and caving. Most towns and villages on the rivers offer some water sports and the tourist information offices are pleased to help. At the “plan d’eau” at Cajarc there are possibilities for paddle boarding, canoe, fun boat and more.
Caves with world-famous ancient cave paintings like at Pech Merle or those with underground flowing streams, beautiful rooms with stalactites and stalagmites such as Padirac are excellently suited to a day out.

Beautiful villages and historic towns
Several of the most picturesque villages in France are less than an hour’s drive. Najac, Conques, Belcastel, St Cirq Lapopie & Cordes sur Ciel are all exceptional. Historic towns as Villefranche de Rouergue, Cahors, Montauban, Figeac, Albi & Toulouse are all local towns with wonderful history, museums, buildings and open markets – with excellent sightseeing, shopping and restaurants.
A day at the zoo
In the area several small end larger zoos can be visited. Some exemples are Parc Animalier de Gramat, La Forêt des Singes (monkey forest) and Reptiland (over 80 species reptiles, such as snakes, crocodiles, lizards, scorpions, spiders, etc. The largest collection in France).
Or visit the bird show at Rocher des Aigles, where vultures, eagles, falcons and other birds of prey are to be admired in a show.
The region has a network of footpaths of breathtaking routes taking in the unpolluted air and peace of the area. There is a wealth of stunning scenery, wild life & history just waiting to be discovered. Most towns have excellent tourist information offices where maps and details of local footpaths can be found.
There is an endless choice of cycle trails with grades suited to all levels. Standard bikes are available at Villa Le Camp. For special wishes: bike hire is available in several places. We’re happy to advise.
For the thrill seekers
An unforgettable experience: ballooning above the ‘Causses du Quercy’. Weather allowing you will take off for a flight of approximately 2 hours, early in the morning or at sunset. For those with no fear at all: paragliding, delta flying or parachute jumping is possible as well.

Boat trip on the river Lot
At Bouziès you can embark for a boat trip on the River Lot. For example a shuttle boat from Bouziès to Saint Cirq Lapopie or a trip following the stream the river Lot aboard a replica of a “gabares” from the 19th century.
Another possibility is a discovery cruise along vineyards and castles on the banks of the Lot, with wine tasting on board. Departure from Luzech.
How about golf on the splendid Championship course at Albi Bordered by the Tarn river & Sainte-Cécile cathedral looking down on it, the “Albi Lasbordes” golf course provides a great day out. There is wonderful fishing throughout the area, with details available locally. If you fancy a lake, there is a very large one at the Lac du Bannac halfway between Limogne and Villefranche-de-Rouergue.
